Year 6

Autumn 1 - update
In Geography, our topic question has been 'How can we power our planet'? We have looked at fossil fuels, different types of renewable energy and how we could power our school. We used the iPads to conduct some research into the different sources of energy used in different countries based on the geography of that place.

During our DT topic this half term, we have been looking at recycle, reuse and reduce. With a large portion of materials being thrown away after just one use, we wanted to change that. We have made phone cases, suitable for children, out of left over material and old clothes. We did some product research to see what was already available on the market, learnt different stitching techniques and then designed our final piece. We are so happy with how they turned out!

This half term, we have been playing some maths games during our lessons. Although they are really fun to play, they are also helping us with different maths skills like problem solving, forward thinking, strategizing, working methodically and reasoning.

Year 6 have really been enjoying the electricity topic in science this half term. The children have been making and drawing circuits using different electrical components. Our favourite lesson so far was the one where we pretended to be electricians on our first job and diagnose the problem within a circuit before offering a solution. We can definitely see this being a career for some of our children!

Year 6 have had a fantastic morning at St Mary's church in Whitkirk to celebrate their heritage week. We learnt about the history of the church and did lots of activities about it. We hope to go back there in the near future.
