Year 3
Spring 1 - update
In PE with Mr Megson the children have been improving their balancing skills and range of movement. This week they were practising how they could travel and balance in different ways on a range of equipment. There were a great range of skills shown with some fantastic jumps, cartwheels and forward rolls.
Year 3 had the pleasure of Reverend Dr Nicola Anne Robinson from Christ Church Methodist Church in Halton coming in to teach an RE lesson about What do Christians believe is a good life? She told the Story of The Good Samaritan and taught us what Christians believe should be followed in order to live a good life. We then reflected on our own thoughts of what we think we should do in order to be a good person and live a good life.
This half term in DT Year 3 are learning all about pneumatics. We have begun the topic by looking at where and how pneumatic systems are used in the world around us. The children then went on to explore how they could used pressurised air to create movement using tubing and syringes. They got really stuck into it!
Autumn 1
This half term in science we have been learning about animals including humans. Part of our focus has been learning about the human skeleton and its key functions. The children really enjoyed going outside and drawing round their classmates and using the chalk to draw the different bones and some of the key organs they protect.
In DT, Hedgehogs have been working hard to design and create their own boxes that they can keep something special in. They began by designing their ideas onto a smaller version of a net and then drew up their final idea, before sticking it to card, cutting and folding it carefully to create their own special box. I am sure you can agree that they have worked really hard with these and we are very proud of the final outcome.
Hedgehogs have made a great splash with starting their swimming lessons this half term. The children have started to become more confident in the water after being assigned their new swimming groups. They are also increasing their independence by getting ready independently before and after swimming. We look forward to seeing the progress they make over the rest of the half term.
Introduction from the Teachers
"Welcome to Hitch & Graham's Hedgehogs!
We are Miss Hitch and Mrs Graham and we are really looking forward to having an amazing year with you all. Miss Hitch, our phase leader, will teach Hedgehogs on a Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday morning and Mrs Graham will teach the other Wednesday morning, then every Wednesday afternoon through to Friday. We are both new to year 3 and cannot wait to get started with the new interesting learning we have planned.
In Key Stage 2, we have some new subjects and lessons that you start to learn. The first being the new subject MFL where you will learn to speak French, German and Spanish as well as learning all about what life is like in these countries. In Year 3, you will all get the opportunity to go swimming. For Hedgehog class, we will be going on Thursday afternoons during Autumn term 1.
In September, we start our Geography topic answering the question Where can you find liquid Rock? This involves looking at volcanoes and how they are formed. We have lots of new texts to explore during English, the first book Escape to Pompeii will link to our Geography learning. Our Science topic is Animals including humans which will build on learning you have done in Key Stage 1. We start year 3 Maths looking at Place Value and move on to addition and subtraction. In DT, we will look at shell structures where we will design and make our own.
In Autumn 2, we will be going on a school trip on Thursday 8th November to Skelton Grange to kick start our history topic all about the Stone age. At Christmas, we will be doing some collaborative learning with year 3 all about The Christmas Carol, we can't wait to show you it!
We have lots of other exciting things planned for throughout Year 3 so watch this space!"
"Welcome to the Wood's Woodpeckers! I will be your teacher Miss Wood and I am so excited to have an amazing year with you all. As you now move up into Key Stage 2 we have lots of exciting new learning to do.
