To conclude our English learning, we became chocolatiers and made our own chocolate lollipops! Using what we had also learnt in Science, we melted the chocolate, which meant that it turned into a liquid and we could shape it into our design. We added skittles, marshmallows and even popcorn! We had to wait until the chocolate turned into a solid again before we could eat them!

Miss Goddard wanted to share this fabulous reading scrapbook page designed by Aria in the Goldfinches. Aria wrote about The Day the Crayons Quit and why she liked this book. Aria added an amazing 3D effect by sticking crayons to her page. The whole class were amazed! Good work Aria!

Our science topic in the Spring half term has been on States of Matter. We have discussed how some objects can change state from a solid to a liquid. We became chocolatiers and investigated how long milk, dark and white chocolate takes to melt over hot water. We made predictions on which chocolate we think would melt the quickest. Our conclusions showed that dark chocolate melted the quickest for the Glow-Worms and the white chocolate melted the quickest for the Goldfinches. We discussed how we made this a fair test and what we could change if we were to do this again.

Eight children from Year 4 went to Temple Moor High School for a dodgeball tournament against different primary schools in the area. The children played really well as a team and managed to get to the semi finals! Well done to all of the children who participated!

Year 4 have been using the chime bars in our music lessons. We have talked about the scale and the pitch. We have worked together in teams to play twinkle twinkle little star by reading the music. This has taken perseverance and resilience but the children have done a brilliant job.
Year 4 have been learning about the importance of teeth. We have learned about the different types of teeth and their different jobs. The children used play dough to create molars, canines and incisors.
Year 4 had a fantastic day pretending to be on Ready Steady Cook. Split into the Red Tomatoes and Green Peppers teams, the children worked together to prepare a vegetable moussaka and a tzatziki dip. The children learned how to peel and cut potatoes and courgettes, and we carefully assembled our dishes altogether. At the end of the day, both teams’ dishes were judged and it finished with a draw!

"Welcome to the Glow-Worms! I am Miss Gilbert - your new teacher and I'm very excited to teach you all! We start our year off in Autumn 1, by embracing everything chocolate with our class text 'Wonka'. This is my favourite Year 4 book! We learn all about Greece and what it would be like to live there in geography and how an electrical circuit works, in science! "

"Hello, I'm Miss Goddard and welcome to the Goldfinches class! In Year 4 we look at lots of exciting topics across the curriculum. We explore how the Vikings and Romans lived, we investigate how sound travels in Science and we look at lots of different cultures all over the world in Geography. In the Summer term, we also have a very exciting residential to Nell Bank which will be jam packed with fun activities across three days. I am really looking forward to teaching Year 4 this year!"
