Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE)

At Templenewsam Halton Primary, PSHE is taught through six themes across the year:

  • Being Me in My World
  • Celebrating Difference
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me, Relationships
  • Changing Me.

Lessons help children learn about themselves, other people and their place in school and the wider world. They explore feelings, friendships, safety, health and responsibilities.
Each year builds on the last so children deepen their understanding at an age-appropriate level.

By Year 6, pupils are prepared for secondary school with the confidence and skills to stay safe, work with others and manage change.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is at the core of what we do at Templenewsam Halton Primary School. Safeguarding is taught and reinforced through the curriculum and wider school life by identifying planned opportunities across subjects and learning experiences to promote safety and wellbeing. This approach supports pupils to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for personal safeguarding and helps to maintain a strong culture of vigilance, care and support.

Protected Characteristics

The Equality Act 2010 protects people in Britain from discrimination, harassment and victimisation and identifies nine Protected Characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. At Templenewsam Halton Primary School, these are actively promoted through the curriculum and embedded within our ethos, enabling pupils to learn about equality, respect and diversity and to understand their place in a diverse society.
