Computing

At Templenewsam Halton Primary School, we want children to become masters of technology and embrace the changes in the 21st Century.

Technology is everywhere and will play an important part in our children’s lives.  We want to model and educate our children on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely; our computing curriculum of computer science, information technology and digital literacy enable our children to do this and become creators.

Early Years

In EYFS, children follow instructions, spot patterns, create simple sequences and debug when things go wrong. They use digital devices, recognise basic parts of a computer, organise objects, create pictograms and talk about how technology is used.

Key Stage 1

In KS1, pupils learn to identify technology and use laptops and tablets confidently. They create digital art, text and photography, group data, and use simple algorithms to control robots and animations. Children predict outcomes, debug mistakes and begin to understand how information technology is used at home, in school and beyond.

Key Stage 2

In KS2, children deepen understanding of digital systems, networks and the internet. They create animations, audio, video, desktop publishing and web content; work with data through branching databases, logging and spreadsheets; and develop programming through sequences, events, loops, variables and selection. Pupils use digital tools to plan, design and evaluate work and learn how technology supports communication, collaboration and problem-solving.
