Year 2

Summer 1 - update

Year 2 started their RE topic on 'Jesus and his teachings' this half term. We had 2 special visitors come into school to talk about their special 'calling' and why they felt there was only route that they wanted to take. Oscar's dad spoke about his job as a train driver and how he wanted to work with trains from a young age. Miss Mathewson's auntie also came to speak to about her career as a neo-natal nurse. Both were truly inspirational and the children loved hearing them speak. Thank you to both for sparing your time to come into school.

Year 2 had a fantastic visit from the Fire Service. They spoke about all the different jobs they do, from putting out fires to helping cats out of trees! Then they showed the children their fire engine and allowed the children to hold some of their special equipment. The children also had a turn at firing their very powerful hose. A big thank you to Killingbeck Fire Station for coming in and giving the children such a memorable morning
Spring 1

- A team player
- Resilient
- Fit and healthy
- Good at solving problems
- Brave

We have made an excellent start to the Spring term in our Maths lessons! We have been learning about different 2D and 3D shapes, including their properties and similarities/differences between shapes. The children were able to showcase their knowledge in this practical 'sorting' lesson by coming up with their own criteria for sorting the shapes.
Autumn 2
To kick start our Science topic of Materials we have been investigating the different types of materials in our everyday world. We have been sorting and categorising materials based on their properties and are looking forward to performing some investigations to test the suitability of different materials.

Autumn 1
Year 2 have kick-started their History topic on Temple Newsam House by making their very own Tudor ruffs. We looked at fashion during Tudor times and noticed how they liked to wear collars made from fine lace. We made our collars by drawing patterns on paper and folding it carefully to create the effect of a ruff. We then paraded our ruffs, thinking carefully about how smartly a wealthy Tudor would have walked and moved.
