Maths
At Templenewsam Halton Primary School, we aim to develop motivated and resilient mathematicians who are confident in devising skills and strategies to tackle any Maths problem.
By building on key skills from Early Years up to Year 6, children will see Maths as being a crucial and relevant subject in their life. We aim to equip our children with the three aims of the National Curriculum: fluency, reasoning and problem solving.
The National Curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:
- become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately
- reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
- can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
We follow the National Curriculum (2014) in all year groups, using the White Rose Maths Scheme to support our teaching, whilst ensuring our content builds on the skills of Fluency, Reasoning and Problem Solving. All children, whatever their capability, will experience some level of Mastery in their Maths learning.
Maths Ambassadors
We are the Templenewsam Halton Maths Ambassadors and this is what our job entails:
- We set an example during lessons, we are motivated and we share our ideas.
- We deliver certificates during our celebration assembly every Friday.
- We share our ideas in our meetings about how to improve Maths and raise the profile.
- We give other children a voice to be heard.
- We share our love of Maths!
