Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

At Templenewsam Halton Primary School we aim for all children with SEND to fulfil their potential and wherever possible reach or exceed age related expectations. We equip children with the skills to achieve positive outcomes in life and foster a love of learning through high quality teaching and targeted support.

Teachers monitor progress closely and identify concerns early. Where extra help is required, we work with families to agree support using the Assess, Plan, Do, Review process. Classroom teaching is adapted first, with additional small group or one to one sessions provided when they will make a difference.

All children learn alongside their peers wherever possible. Teachers remove barriers to learning using strategies such as scaffolded tasks, visual prompts, movement breaks, technology and access to sensory resources.

Parents and carers are key partners. We meet regularly to review progress, set new targets and celebrate successes. Families are encouraged to contact the class teacher or SENCO at any point if they have questions or concerns.

Children receive additional support when moving year groups, joining our school or leaving for secondary school. This may include extra visits, social stories, time with new staff and sharing information with the next setting.
