Admissions
At Templenewsam Halton, we are proud to offer a caring, inclusive and stimulating environment where children feel safe, valued and excited to learn. Our dedicated staff work closely with families to ensure every child feels supported as they take their first steps into school life.
We know that choosing a school is an important decision, and we would be delighted if you would consider Templenewsam Halton for your child. We warmly welcome families to visit us, ask questions and get a feel for our school community.
Below, you’ll find information about our admissions processes for Nursery and Reception, including how to apply and what to expect.
Applying for Reception
Each year, the application process opens in November, in the year before your child is due to start Reception, and closes in early January. Applications are managed directly by the Leeds Admissions Team, so we’re not able to check the progress of applications or advise on the likelihood of a place being offered.
Leeds City Council will write to you to confirm which school is closest to your home address and to invite you to apply.
To help guide you through the process, Leeds City Council provides a short ‘how to apply’ video and a set of frequently asked questions. These explain how to apply and what to expect next, and are really helpful if this is your first time applying for a school place.

September 2026 Nursery Intake
Our main Nursery intake for September usually begins in March or April. We will contact families using the email address provided on the waiting list form.
We may also be able to offer places in January or April, depending on availability. Children can start Nursery in the term following their third birthday.
Nursery Sessions
We currently offer the following sessions:
31.25 hours per week – full days, Monday to Friday
15 hours per week, either:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, or
Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday
All children aged three are entitled to 15 hours of free childcare. Eligible families can apply for up to 30 hours of funded childcare through the Government website, subject to availability. Eligibility for additional funded hours must be confirmed before the start of each term.
Lunchtime Arrangements
Children staying for lunch can bring a packed lunch from home or enjoy a two-course hot meal, freshly prepared in our school kitchen. This option is chargeable. Our current menu is available on the school website.
